  • IUPAT DC 11 Ratifies New Four Year Contract!

    IUPAT DC 11 BMST Jason Werthman is happy to announce the closing of ratification voting and the successful ratification of a new four year contract.

     

    The new four year agreement ensures the hard work of IUPAT DC 11 members continues to be rewarded with top notch wages and benefits for the best craftsmen in the finishing trades throughout Connecticut , Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

     

    The results of the ratification vote are: 108 aye, 9 nay.

    1. Self-Paced Online (via the LMS) 
    These classes can be taken on your own, in the comfort of your home, at your own pace. Register by emailing

    2. Virtual (via ZOOM)
    These are scheduled instructor led certification courses held virtually on a video conferencing software called ZOOM. Register below!

    3. Hybrid (Virtual & In-Person)
    These courses are part Virtual & part In-Person (hands-on assessment). The Hands-on assessments is approx. 30 minutes in duration & requires a separate registration. Both components must be completed before a certification will be issued. (Example- MEWP & Forklift Training Classes). Register below!

    4. In-Person
    These are our In-Person certification courses. Limited spaces available due to social distancing guidelines. Details on the new protocols are provided on the registration page. Register below!

    WE ARE NOW OFFERING A VARIETY OF ONLINE TRAINING COURSES THAT YOU MAY COMPLETE IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME!

    • These courses are being offered virtually on our Learning Management System (LMS) that will count towards the 2020 STAR Banquet
    • You will need to take two (2) credits to be eligible for the banquet
    • You will need a laptop or tablet and internet to complete the courses

    COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

    Allied Trades Assistance Preventative Education 1 CREDIT

    • ATAP is designed to inform/empower individuals by separating fact from fiction, encouraging the workforce to choose proactive behavior when it comes to mental health issues and addictions. The goal is to educate individuals to promote a healthy, safe, and substance free working environment. 

    Anger Management 1 CREDIT 

    • This course is designed to describe the essentials of managing anger in an appropriate and constructive manner. While designed specifically for the work environment, the core elements of this training can be applied when you are at home or on the road. The constant pressures and stresses of modern life have resulted in a growing realization that anger control methods should be taught.

    Back Safety 1 CREDIT

    • Manual material handling involves the moving of material by hand through lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, shoveling or any combination of these actions. About 58% of back injuries are caused by manual material handling. In this course, we look at the anatomy of the back, injuries of the back caused by manual material handling and how to prevent them.

    Changing the Culture of Construction 1 CREDIT

    • This training is designed to inform and empower the construction industry by separating fact from fiction and encourage our workforce to choose proactivity when it comes to behavioral health issues and addictions. Our goal is to educate individuals, in turn promoting a healthy, safe, and substance free working environment.

    Clear Communication 1 CREDIT

    • Clear Communication is a course designed to familiarize participants with ways to improve their basic communication skills. After completing this course, participants should be able to describe effective methods for improving listening skills, describe ways to ensure that listeners receive a message as the speaker intended, and describe techniques for effectively giving and receiving feedback. 

    Communication and Leadership 1 CREDIT

    • This course teaches the basics of communication and leadership. The communication portion of the course focuses on the different modes and styles of communication, and how you can use this information to better communicate with a variety of people.

    Coronavirus Preparedness 0.5 CREDITS

    • Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This course will tell you about simple steps you can take to stay healthy and prevent the spread of the virus & disease

    Crystalline Silica: Understanding The Hazards 1 CREDIT

    • Crystalline silica are very small particles of hazardous dust that can cause severe scarring of your lungs and possibly lead to death. This  course will teach you how to recognize materials that may contain crystalline silica dust, how to stay compliant with OSHA regulations pertaining to crystalline silica, and hazardous control techniques for silica exposure. 

    Ergonomics in the Workplace 1 CREDIT

    • This course is designed to teach the basic skills needed to create a healthy work environment, increase productivity and decrease ergonomic risk factors by recognizing the way in which we interact with our environment, specifically while at work. 
       

    Hazardous Communication 1 CREDIT

    • This program is designed to provide Students with a basic understanding of the requirements of the Hazard Communication Standard (1910.1200) and safe work practices

    Hearing Conservation 1 CREDIT

    • "Hearing Conservation: A Sound Choice," explains the purpose and benefits of a hearing conservation program & the importance of wearing hearing protection when needed. 
       

    iFTI LMS Learners Orientation 0.5 CREDITS

    • This is an orientation that walks learners through the features, benefits & functionality of the iFTI Learning Management System. This is a great course to take if you have never used this system before. 
       

    Ladder Safety 1 CREDIT

    • Most ladder accidents are caused by improper use. A good ladder safety program pays off in both human and economic terms. "Ladder Safety: Take The Right Steps," is designed to teach your workers the proper techniques for using all types of ladders found in your facility. Oftentimes, the warning stickers attached to the ladder go unnoticed. 
       

    Managing Stress 1 CREDIT

    • There are many effective strategies for coping with stress. Some will give you temporary relief, while others can be integrated into your lifestyle in order to give you long term relief. Lifestyle strategies for managing stress can be divided into three major categories: physical activity, nutrition and relaxation. In this module, we will look at the importance of physical activity and good nutrition in managing the negative effects of stress. 
       

    OSHA 10 Certificate of Training 1 CREDIT

    • Upon successful completion (70%) students will receive an OSHA-10 Hour Construction Industry Outreach completion card. Note: OSHA regulations state that students cannot spend longer than 7.5 hours in a course per day please allocate a minimum of 2 days to complete this training 

    OSHA 30 Certificate of Training 2 CREDITS

    • In this program, supervisors & workers responsible for safety on the job will attend a 30- hour class delivered by OSHA trainers 

     

    SPANISH COURSES

    Spanish Fall Protection 1 CREDIT

    • This course is offered in the Spanish Language. Falls are the second leading cause of death in the workplace.  With the proper training and equipment, those deaths from falling could have been prevented. The objective of this Summit program, "Fall Protection: Taking Control," is to train your employees to recognize potential fall hazards in their work place and provide them with an understanding of the proper use and care of personal fall protection equipment, with an emphasis on fall arrest systems. The program also discusses the importance of a pro-active safety attitude in preventing work place falls. 

    Spanish Hazardous Communication 1 CREDIT

    • This course is offered in the Spanish language. Please see the course description for "Hazardous Communication". 

    Spanish Hearing Conservation 1 CREDIT

    • This course is offered in the Spanish language. Please see the course description for "Hearing Conservation" 

    ​Spanish OSHA 10 Certificate 1 CREDIT

    • This course is offered in the Spanish language. Please see the course description for "OSHA 10".
